Comparison of all Top Football Games Out There
Posted on December 8, 2009 by James W
There are quite a lot of football video games out there vying with each other to capture the gaming market in the football games segment. Games such as Madden 08, NCAA Football 08, All Pro Football 2K8, NFL Head Coach, NFL Street 3, Backyard Football2007, Arena Football and Football Mogul 07 head the rankings in terms of sales and popularity. Choosing the best one out of this list is quite hard, but we’ve made a small comparison of 3 games on this list such as Madden, NCAA Football 2K8 and All Pro Football 2K8, based on user reviews, to help you make a selection.
Especially once you add Tecmo Bowl or even SUPER TECMO BOWL into the mix!!
Madden 08 by Electronic Arts seems to be a popular choice among gamers of-late (even gamers who play online games). Madden 08 can be played, both, on Xbox and Playstation consoles, but the versions for Xbox 360 and PS3 looks more like arcade games. However, there definitely are some roster updates in the new version and gaming purists will not mind the extra spend on the latest version. Also, there is a “weapons” feature found on the PS3 and 360 versions, which can help you determine the weapons possessed by players in your team as well as your opponent’s. This can help you avoid the player in the opposing team who has one of the weapons. This simply makes your passing and running much easier. The downsides are that there are some glitches that were there in the previous version, but most of these are related to the game and have nothing to do with hardware or software technology of the product. Madden 08 is a very good buy for $44 at Amazon, if you have a penchant for high end graphics and arcade games.
NCAA Football 08 from Electronic Arts is for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 gaming platforms. Generally, the reviews from gamers about this game are positive, but gamers have been heard to complain about its passing feature. It’s like a player gets stuck to the spot or repeating the same moves when receiving a pass. The game also takes long to load, and the main menu seems to be confusing for many gamers. However, the graphics on the 360 are superb, but the game could have been tuned better for the PS3. There is an ESPN.com feature that enables you to see team rankings in real time, and the stadiums are well done with even features to change the environment according to the weather/climate. Notwithstanding the minor flaws, this game can be a lot of fun due to its new features and audio/visual qualities. In comparison with Madden, this game leaves much to be desired.
All Pro Football 2K8 from 2K Games is for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 platforms. Superb sound and graphics stand out in this game as also its fluid game play. The game comes with a lot of personal touches with info on every player’s specialties, and what he does best. Choosing your team is easy this way, but the teams are all generally made up of known names; so you would actually not need the extra info given on the players. The downsides are that though you can pick a legend team, you wouldn’t be able to play against it as the legend team is essentially a CPU team, and the focus is mainly on offence and the defense is almost ignored by the developers. This game is on par with Madden 08 and costs a lot lesser, which makes this game more desirable if you want great audio/video qualities in your game and value for your money.
All said and done, all 3games have more or less equal amounts of positives and drawbacks, but if you give more importance to fluidity of play, graphics, audio and overall ease of play, then we would rank Madden 08 at the top followed by All Pro Football 2K8 and NCAA Football 08 respectively.
