After 10 days of unsuccessfully trying to contact Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, head coach Josh McDaniels and owner Pat Bowlen have told Cutler’s agent that they will trade the disgruntled quarterback in the next few days.
A fine mess this is. Now being forced to trade Cutler the Broncos will be hard pressed to get anything near full value for him while both Cutler and McDaniels lose a tremendous amount of credibility throughout the league. No official word on teams interested in Cutler but the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Bucs are the likely landing spots for Cutler.

In a sad story two African immigrants were found murdered in a Long Island, NY condo that is owned by New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma.
The two men were allegedly involved in a “black money” scheme where people are promised large amounts of smuggled money but are given black paper. Vilma was not home at the time of the murder and authorities do not believe Vilma was involved in the crime.

Former Falcons quarterback Michael Vick agreed to pay the Atlanta Falcons a settlement of $6.5 million as part of his bankruptcy proceedings.
The Falcons still own the rights to Vick’s contract and are actively shopping the former star who is serving a sentence for running a dog fighting ring, but by trade or by release Vick apparently does not factor in to the Falcons future plans.

Just a few interesting off-field items in the world of football…
The Dallas Cowboys, who are on schedule to debut their new stadium in week 2 of this season, are still looking for a partner to purchase the naming rights to the new building.
Michael Vick, who is due to be released to a halfway house in the near future, has signed an agreement to work exclusively with defense attorney Daniel Meachum. The Atlanta Journal Constitution also noted that Vick wrote a book while in prison, though does not yet have a publisher.
Former Steeler and Hall of Fame receiver John Stallworth was added to a group of investors that will help Steelers owner Dan Rooney to acquire ownership shares from his brothers.

Following up on our story a few days ago about Browns receiver Donte Stallworth and his accident that killed a pedestrian, a Miami TV station is reporting that Stallworth was in fact over the legal limit for alcohol although police have not confirmed this story.
Reportedly Stallworth’s blood alcohol limit was 0.12, higher than the legal limit of 0.08. If this report is true Stallworth will face both DUI and Manslaughter charges and could face a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Philly.com is reporting that the NFL Owners are discussing changing the draft order for next year’s NFL draft. Currently spots 1-30 in the draft order are determined by the team’s regular season performance with the super bowl teams taking spots 31 and 32.
The proposal would leave spots for non-playoff teams the same but base the spots for the playoff teams on playoff performance. The article cites the Giants, who have the 29th pick this season, who were ousted by the Eagles, who hold the 21st pick. With the change the Giants would draft before the Eagles.

The Tampa Bay Bucs have signed former Bills linebacker Angelo Crowell to a one year deal and $3 million guaranteed. Crowell led the Bills with 126 tackles in 2007 but missed all of 2008 with a knee injury. Crowell helps fill the voids left by the cuts of linebackers Cato June and Derrick Brooks and is likely to see action at strong side linebacker.
